Winners of the 7th LBR Trophy Competition!

Posted by TOWERS_85_87 on Mar 31, 2010 in Everything Else

The MARCH MADNESS has reached its climax!

Knowing that the LittleBIGReviewers’ one year anniversary took place this month, we wanted to make sure that both the occasion and the contest were memorable.  With this train of thought, we brainstormed back and forth with different concepts. At the end, we decided that participants would greatly enjoy knowing that they would have 2 possible opportunities of winning since the top 2 participants will be awarded with one of our delightful trophies. You, the LBP fan, responded greatly to the announcement and flooded us with entries. We celebrated our group’s anniversary by traversing all the entries with the traditional LBP Birthday Cake costume. With our own tweaks to the costume of course ;)   These can be seen in all the photos below.

We had a BLAST judging them all. Without a doubt, the are THE BEST entries that we have ever had for our contests. These results took us a while to announce, but it was because we felt like EVERY level deserved to be in the limelight. That’s why you can see all the great photos we took below. The competition was REALLY REALLY close between several entries. We never had numerous levels occupy the same positions; something which NEVER happened until now. The difference in scores were by decimal places so you can only imagine. We encourage all of you to continue your great work and enter our future contests for a chance at the LBR custom trophy. What’s better than having a real prize right? :)

Having said that, without further delay, the top 2 winners of the LittleBIGReviewers’ March Level competition (‘March Madness’) are:

Colour Your Dreams 2” by soarecucolti and

Double Trouble” by BlahYourHamster

:D CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You each won a LBR Platinum Trophy

Colour Your Dreams 2” by soarecucolti

This level is the an amazing sequel to a great level (Colour Your Dreams 1). The incredible lighting effects along with the carefully selected decorations with the peaceful music makes it feel like poetry in motion. The key difference is that its orientation is towards the effects of modern day industrialization over the environment. It really makes you think about life and the world. Something not typically witnessed in LittleBIGPlanet. As you successfully complete puzzles, you are rewarded with light being added to the scene; which reveals outstanding attention to detail in the scenery.  Several locations were implemented; which also helps vary the structures and the designs.

Double Trouble” by BlahYourHamster

Players have gone bonkers since Sony announced the new and innovative gameplay that will be introduced with the Playstation Move. The author, probably being as anxious as we all are, took the initiative of creating something along those lines. With anything barely being revealed by Sony, the author provided a wide array of puzzles and obstacles that can be played with a friend. He had loads of fun as we purposely tossed each other over fiery coal and the spikes. The gameplay is also composed of obstacles that will probably not be seen with the Playstation Move since they require the use of the Pause/Play options. The instructions are clear, easy to understand and most of all FUN.

‘March Madness’ Contestants:

1. Dark Night of the Boogie-Sack by arklon (Story)

2. Lady Bug Level 1: The Gardens (Story/Platformer)

Why do we find this level so charming?  Perhaps it’s the simple introduction of three cute ladybugs, descending from the heavens–or maybe just a few leaves–to start off the level.  Perhaps it’s the different paths and branches–pun not intended, but it just showed up from my mind unbidden–that the level takes.  Perhaps it’s just the visual style.  I’ve always been quite fond of the aesthetics of the Gardens theme, and this is no different.  Also, there are touching details throughout, such as the sticker-ed message at the scoreboard saying “Lady Bug Planet.”  Try it out, and have your heart thawed just a bit.

3. FUN HOUSE H2O (WATER)!!! by PLAY_BOY_SP (Platformer)

This level comes from an instantly recognizable person if you’ve visited the Cool Pages anytime in the past few months: PLAY_BOY_SP.  Generally known for the Monocicle–I think I’m spelling that correctly–levels/series, this creator decided to take a different step with this level.  It almost reminds me of a level in the style of a fun house at old carnivals.  It didn’t have creepy workers or rusting equipment, though.  What it did have was colorful visuals, interesting gameplay with varied types of going about doing things, and a satisfying end.  Try it.  What else can I say other than that?  I’m not a writer.  Wait.  Yes I am.

4. Double Trouble by BlahYourHamster (Platformer)

5. Look Out Below by AS3_18 (Survival Challenge)

6. M&M’s Chocolate Candies by bcrichmark (Platformer)

If you’re like me–not overweight but also not able to resist the allure of chocolate–then you should play this level.  Even if you’re not like me–and I rather hope you’re not, for reasons I won’t explain here–you should still play this level.  Why?  Colorful visuals make for a good backdrop.  The actual M&M character models are detailed and, as far as I can tell, realistic.  Although I have to admit, I never pay attention to M&M’s commercials because I’m thinking about eating the candy, not talking with “live” versions of it.  Anyways, I digress, and you’re probably wondering why you’re still reading this.  Just know that gameplay + good visuals + realistic character models + jubilant atmosphere = something even better than M&M’s.

7. Wonder World by Suzie_Q1 (Platformer)

This level is set in a peculiar amusement park that isn’t set up like other parks in traditional LittleBigPlanet style.  Whereas Wiggler World and all its kin are set up in a nonlinear design and fashion, Wonder World took a different step and put it into a linear style.  The backgrounds in this level were simply phenomenal; I’ve been trying over the past day or so to learn how to use and create with the 3D layer glitch, but apparently Suzie_Q1 already has it mastered.  The visuals were predominant, especially a garden-like area at the beginning of the level with a walk over a delightful bridge in a warm, summery setting.  The poet’s coming out in me–I better stop before you all become bored.  Give the level a try, see if you like it.  We did.

8. Tree Top Adventure by doomer112290 (Platformer)

9. The Proteus Prophecy: Part One by shindol (Story/Puzzler)

This level was a great pleasure to play.  Its point-and-click style, while becoming partially more prevalent in LittleBigPlanet, still is hard to get right without overloading the player with countless stickers.  Also, being of its literary, storytelling nature, and having a soon-enough-to-be English major as one of the leaders of the group (can you guess who?), this level was a great diversion from real-life short stories, novellas, novels and poems.  The visuals were moody and atmospheric to complement the dark nature of the story.  There was a clever puzzle or two thrown in as well, including something involving a glass bottle; tricky to figure out at first, but in hindsight, obvious, as the clues were there the whole time.  An enjoyable level for a lit-head like someone in the group and anyone who enjoys a believable environment and atmosphere.

10. Zigoton Costume Tutorial by escalade29 (Tutorial)

11. Colour Your Dreams by Soarecucolti (Puzzler)

12. Launch Octopus-Mega Man X by TubaDude49 (Boss)

13. Monster Energy Snowboarding by MonsterSnowbrder (Race)

14. Tick Tock Clock by PacJonno (Story/Platformer/Boss)

Tick Tock Clock tasks players with finding their way to the top of a massive clock tower, with giant gears making their way seemingly upwards, downwards, diagonally and every direction imaginable against a backdrop and premise of defeating an evil mad scientist and his obedient robot.  Without spoiling anything, the two major–I believe, only–scenes with the robot are satisfying, gratifying, and everything in between.  A boss fight rounds out the experience, and some cool mechanics for doing seemingly simple things and completing apparently simple tasks keep players engaged and intrigued.  I suggest trying the level out, see what you find, and like what you do.

15. Pirating Plunder by mattyb39 (Platformer)

16. Kolor Kraze by JIMMITH12 (Platformer/Race)
We found it rather touching that the level’s description went out of its way–its whole way, as in it was only about us–to say that it was made solely for our competition.  Behind that description, however, lay a very good level that had a clean-cut, simple-but-beautiful visual style.  The prizes were worth going out of your way to get them, hidden in obscure corners yet ultimately still discoverable.  The gameplay was engaging and, in fact, rather fresh.  I personally enjoyed the part near the end with the many platforms stacked side-by-side on the ceiling and floor, bouncing the player to the scoreboard, where the name of the level shone in bright, buoyant colors.  A great effort that I can say I am proud to have played.

17. PEACE RACER by BabyNeedShoes (Race)

A Green Sunset–PUBLISHED

Posted by admin on Mar 22, 2010 in Everything Else

Hello everyone,

Well, our post-apocalyptic series, “A Green Sunset,” is now officially published and waiting to provide you with playing pleasure.  It follows a main character by the simple name of Kid, who, together with a companion revealed in Part 3 of the series, traverses the giant post-Armageddon wasteland that is now America.  You’ll travel to various locales, from a suburb that has lost its name, to a trip back in time and memory, to a church, government capital, and finally a mysterious building.

Samalot from LBPMedia has been kind enough to upload videos of all of the levels to YouTube.  And here they are:

A Green Sunset Part 1

A Green Sunset Part 2

A Green Sunset Part 3

A Green Sunset Part 4

A Green Sunset Part 5

We sincerely hope you play these levels and enjoy them.  It took from the start of November 2009 to March 21st to complete and polish all the levels.

Enjoy!
